Jess has had an amazing couple of seasons and is the only one to really consistently give Kipyegon something to think about. It's a shame Kipyegon is so good but you have to hand it to her, she is one of the all time great track athletes, so Jess is doing amazing to keep near her.
I agree with what was suggested earlier on the forum, that this change in clothing is not an accident (no pun intended). This kind of sport-dry material has been around for years and is not new, but Jess's profile has shot through the roof since her silver medal in the Olympics last year and I suspect it is something she has become far more conscious of in the last couple of years.
If you think about it logically, she has been competing for years, training hard every day like all dedicated athletes must, and probably been weeing when she runs since the beginning of her career. We certainly know she was doing it throughout the time she was at Oregon. So she must have been aware of it all those years and known that she was walking round after each race having obviously pissed herself. I think, for most women, that would have been something they would want to hide, even in an environment where it was reasonably common and normalised. A reasonable number of women will pee when they race, but Jess is the only one who was so obvious about it. However, Jess never hid it.
So whilst I am not suggesting she is into it as a kink (that's a fanciful idea), I do genuinely believe she has historically been pretty relaxed about it. However, she is no longer just another promising athlete at Oregon, known only within the sport (and on this forum!). She is an Olympic silver medallist and will have a public profile even outside of athletics, particularly in Australia. She probably doesn't have a "PR team" so to speak, but Nike certainly do and as a Nike athlete, so they will be conscious of her level of fame. I expect she will also have an agent trying to get her things like endorsements, even if they are relatively small advertising campaigns in Australia. So it's not a surprise that they're just trying to be less obvious about it.
In a way, it's amazing she never did anything to hide it sooner. I did notice she never posted full body late race pics of herself on her Insta, any shots showing her shorts were taken pre-race or early on, when nothing was obvious. So perhaps she was a little embarrassed. But obviously not that much!
The great thing is that she has only hidden it from the general public. We know we can still look and those dry-fabric shorts are very good at what they do, but they're not magic!
