In my long experience of watching for real desperation, the girl would have done more to hold back her pee... Like a hand between her legs.
Would he have stopped her car in such a crowded place. surely when you are desperate driving, it is better to 'stay in your car' and try to find somewhere secluded to pee, or if the worst happens; pee yourself in the car. Nobody will see, and you can clean the car later.
I have twice been caught in London traffic with a bursting bladder and had to pee myself in the car. Nobody noticed and no harm to the car. Only problem is getting out of the car when I got home.

Final thought; when caught in this situation, is it better to be seen peeing in the street, or to wet and be seen in wet jeans?

I think pee and risk being seen. Anyone who sees might doubt what they saw and will walk or dive past.
Being seen in wet jeans gives anyone looking plenty of time to check that what they are seeing is real and to take a photo and post it.

That‘s an interesting question. Of course what you said is right, peeing in public means a short moment of embarrassment while soaked pants means a longer time of humiliation for a girl. That’s the reason we see a lot of girls squatting in semi hidden places to avoid peeing themselves.

But I think it depends of the girl’s behavior and her shame and shyness level if it comes to peeing and nudity. A huge part of this is connected with the childraising in general. For the most girls it’s the worst case to show some of her private parts in a public place and a few of them would rather pee their pants instead of exposing themselves.

Some families never talked much about bodily functions like peeing, or peeing somewhere out of a toilet is declare as sacred and forbidden.

Perhaps it's age related and cultural. In the US, girls of my generation (born in the late 1940's) were not allowed to wear pants to school, and their mothers rarely wore pants at all. Frequently they also wore a girdle, so squatting meant hiking up a skirt or dress and petticoat or slip and removing the girdle then sliding their panties aside or pulling them down. Quite an ordeal. This is why girdles were usually perforated in the crotch.

It also meant exposing their genitals to the world, which was something only a prostitute would do. So I'm willing to bet that lots of women peed their panties while standing.

As time went on, women began to wear pants in public, but the taboo against exposing their genitals remained pervasive. I know for a fact that many girls and women preferred to pee their pants when desperation overtook them and neither a restroom nor a place to hide were available.

Today, the effects of the taboo against public exposure have diminished in most western countries. Women and teenage girls don't feel the same degree of shame and are more likely to "pop a squat" when caught short in public.

PP1 and others, I absolutely remember those days and do remember ladies pantie girdles. Even then I was always curious as to how they took them down to pee. Along with the perforated crotches I also recall the fabric crotches while the rest of the pantie was still non absorbent. They also easily shed moisture, that is except for the fabric crotch.

Now the thing to remember is that all ladies wore some sort of pantie even if it was not a girdle and never wore just the girdle because of chaffing. I thought that both pantie-girdles and full body corsets both looked as if they were designed to prevent the wearer peeing. Then I looked more closely at the adverts for these garments and saw that they had a 'crotch flap' with hook and eye fastenings. Simple really, unless the lady wore panties underneath. Then did she pee through the gusset of the panties? I had not seen the concept of pulling the gusset aside, now common.
